About
Flowers create ambience and elevate our collective experiences. They connect us to people we love, our histories, our future aspirations. Flowers—their color, fragrance, textures--evoke wonder, beauty, and entice us to take notice of the current moment we’re in. Flowers are unparalleled in their ability to evoke our sense of possibility. They are restorative to our spirit-- symbols of happiness, ambassadors of love, well-being and human connection. Flowers express our heartfelt sentiments and communicate in ways both subtle and bold.
Bonnie Dawkins comes from a long line of creatives in her family history— musicians, painters, designers, gardeners, all of whom looked at the world with an artful sense of possibility and wonder. As a child, she tended a modest garden of gladiolus, lilacs, and rambling roses, all her mother’s favorites. She remembers offering them to favorite teachers in school, spontaneously handmade bouquets, wrapped in paper towel and aluminum foil for easy transport! Flowers have been a mainstay in Bonnie’s life. She was always drawn to how flowers, once invited indoors, added immeasurable atmosphere to holiday gatherings, celebrations, daily living.
Bonnie is a certified floral designer and graduate of the New York Botanical Garden program. She is founder and lead designer of BD Floral Designs, located in Huntington, NY.
Her own former career in education enabled Bonnie to foster those creative elements in her students. With a doctorate in education she continues to utilize her powerful teaching ability in her floral workshops, sharing her passion for flowers and design and providing participants with a uniquely crafted experience, based on their own abilities and interests.
Bonnie’s private and corporate clients understand her interest and ability to curate elevated bespoke floral designs. She leads with her understanding of what the client is interesting in conveying and seeks the finest florals which will best suit the occasion.
Bonnie loves the challenge of grand, unique projects and continues to regularly collaborate with designers in NYC, working in such beautiful venues such as MoMA, The Met, Cipriani, the Glass House, Pier 57, among others. On-going freelance projects with DeJuan Stroud, The Style Marc and the Woodson Bloomery continue to inspire her as she works with gifted professionals there.
